Mr. Lening, age 82 of Lebanon passed away April 8, 2025, at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital.

Born September 30, 1942, in Old Hickory, he is the son of the late O.M. (Cotton) Lening and Dorothy Warren Lening.  Joe was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1963-1967 during the Vietnam War.  He was in the Swift Boat River Patrol.  He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.  He was a retired truck driver and was an award winning Golden Glove Boxer.  He lived a life of colorful patriotism as he often shared his combat experiences with others.  If you knew Joe, then you knew him for his strong willed attributes and craftiness.  Joe always had busy hands either with boxing gloves, tools, or his guns that he cherished so much.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Tammy Hall; brother, Perry Lening; and son in law, Harvey Jett.

Joe leaves behind Geraldine, his wife of fifty three years, who was his helpmate, best friend, and sole caregiver; three children, Shane (Tracy) Lening, Teresa Jett, and Terry (Shelly) Hall; grandchildren: Paige Lening, Doug (Karen) Lening, Becca (Adam) Martin, Tina (Rick) White, Chad (Erin) Mitchell, Jessica (Tanner) Benham, Krissy, Nichole, Tarah, and Tonya Hall; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister in law, Sally (Gail) Parker; and brother in law, Bud (Debbie) Lackey.
