Miles Smith, age 91, and his wife of 68 years, Anne Key Smith, age 89, died October 6, 2015. Mr. Smith was a native of Lebanon and lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Lebanon. He was a captain in the Marine Air Corps and flew Corsair fighters in the Pacific in WWII and helicopters in the Korean War. He and his brother Gould were co-owners of Fakes and Hooker Lumber Company for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Hartsville and also a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was active in Stephen Ministries. After many years as a homemaker, she went to work at Peoples Bank (later SunTrust Bank). Mrs. Smith published Key Memories , the history of her family, in 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, three half-siblings, and seven siblings.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith are survived by their children, Anne Soileau, Lilburn, GA; Meck (Chris) McDonald, Nashville; Miles (Ginger)Smith, Decatur, GA; and Virginia Webb, Brentwood; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
According to their wishes a private graveside service was held earlier.
