Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Cooper Medlin, age 86, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on March 1, 2026. She was born on April 23, 1939, to Louise and Ed Cooper. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Marvin F. Medlin on February 2, 2024; her parents; and her brother, Jerry Cooper.
Dorothy is survived by her three devoted sons, Jeff (Jen) Medlin, Joe Medlin, and Jim (Andrea) Medlin. She was the cherished grandmother of eleven grandchildren: Gregg Medlin, Kassie (Tim) Burkeen, Cory (Ivy) Rogers, Caroline Medlin, David Medlin, Katherine (Edward) Dempsey, Mark Medlin, Fletcher (Kameryn) Medlin, Avery Medlin, Addison Medlin, and Henry Medlin; great-grandchildren, Nora Burkeen and Oliver Scott Rogers; sister, Brenda (Bobby) Lamb; and several nieces and nephews.
A lifelong believer and faithful servant, Dorothy was a dedicated member of Barton’s Creek Baptist Church in Lebanon, Tennessee. Her faith shaped every part of her life, and she poured her heart into her church, her family, and her community.
Dorothy attended the Baptist School of Nursing on a full scholarship and went on to serve as a registered nurse at Rutherford County Hospital, Nashville Hospital, Knoxville Public Health, and Clover Bottom Development Center. Her compassion, steady presence, and commitment to care impacted countless lives throughout her nursing career.
She was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Dorothy was also a talented musician and artist, sharing her gifts generously and joyfully. Her friendships ran deep, often rooted in shared faith in Christ, love of Scripture, appreciation for the arts, and a warm connection to Southern living.
She was a playful mom and grandmother and engaged in numerous church and civic activities that enriched the lives of so many. She was adored by her husband and was forever his faithful companion and helper.
Dorothy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and the love she poured into everyone around her. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and the many lives she touched.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Barton’s Creek Baptist Church, 1530 Barton’s Creek Road, Lebanon, with Bro. Jacob Colwell officiating. Interment immediately following at Barton’s Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church after 10:00 A.M. Wednesday.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Barton’s Creek Church, and the Steadfast Sunday School Class.
Active pallbearers: Gregg, David, Fletcher, Avery, Mark & Henry Medlin, Cory Rogers, Edward Dempsey, and Tim Burkeen.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would be honored for you to donate for purchase of Bibles throughout the world (She would leave open Bibles in hotels throughout her travels.)
