David Gene Gibbs, 82, passed away on August 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of a family who adored him and will miss him beyond measure.

David was raised in Rock City, Tennessee, a place that remained an important part of his story throughout his life.

David was a devoted husband, a loving Daddy, and a treasured Pop. His family feels incredibly blessed to have had the gift of his love, guidance, wisdom, and steady presence throughout their lives.

David and his beloved wife, Cindy, celebrated 63 years of marriage on August 16, building a life together rooted in love, devotion, and family. Their marriage was a beautiful example to their children and grandchildren of what it means to love one another faithfully through all of life’s seasons. The life they created together and the family they raised remain one of David’s greatest legacies.

David retired from the City of Lebanon, where he served as the Street, Sanitation and Maintenance Superintendent. Throughout his years of service, he brought the same dedication and dependability to his work that characterized the way he lived his life.

David’s greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to support the people he loved, traveling across the country to cheer them on at sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments as though they were his own. Simply being present for his family mattered to him, and those moments will forever be treasured.

David also had a great love for gardening, a passion he generously shared with others. Whether he was growing something himself, offering advice, or passing along the fruits of his labor, his garden was another way he brought joy to the people around him.

Those who knew David will also remember his wonderful stories. He had a special way of sharing memories from years gone by, passing along not only stories of the past but the wisdom and lessons that came with them. His family will deeply miss hearing those familiar stories told in the way only he could tell them.

David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred Bellar Gibbs, and four brothers, Buster, Bevo, Jerry, and George.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy; daughter, Mary Ann (Jeff) Whitefield; son, Bobby Joe (Tressa) Gibbs; grandchildren, Will Whitefield, Joe Whitefield, Annie (Carter) Higgins, Ellie Gibbs, Emma Whitefield, and Ty Gibbs; and a brother, Glenn (Carol) Gibbs.

David was dearly loved, and his absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those closest to him. Yet his family will continue to see him in the lessons he taught them, the stories he shared, the traditions he passed down, and the love for family that he placed at the center of his life.

Above all, David’s life was one of love—love for Cindy, love for his children and grandchildren, and love for the family they built together. His family is forever grateful for every year, every story, every trip, every gathering, and every ordinary day they were blessed to share with him.

He was our husband, our Daddy, and our Pop, and he will be loved and missed always.
