Obituary

Byron Glenn Burchett, MD, aged 73, died on August 6, 2026, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. He was in the company of his family.

Born August 14, 1952 at Fort Knox Army Hospital, KY, he was the son of the late Glenn Bernard Burchett and Marilyn Faulkner Burchett. Byron was a graduate of The Webb School in Bell Buckle, TN and received a Bachelor of Science from Vanderbilt University. He was an employee at Burchett Ford in Lebanon, TN in the Finance division before becoming a stock broker for E.F. Hutton and manager for Randell Securities’ Nashville office. In his late 30s, Byron pivoted in his career path to pursue medicine and received his Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada.

Byron took an enthusiastic interest in many things. During his life he was an avid bicyclist, once taking a month’s long trip from Tennessee to Eastern Kentucky. He also took on the challenges of skiing, scuba diving, playing soccer, and later volunteered as a soccer referee. He was a member of MENSA and loved to work the crossword puzzles and Sudoku. Additionally, he enjoyed researching family genealogy, and generally, the nuts and bolts of how things worked.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother-in-law LCDR Guy Caldwell Chamberlain III, USN (Ret) of Charlotte, NC; nephews Austin Hamilton Burchett of Lebanon, and Glenn Thomas Chamberlain of Charlotte. He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Burchett, brother Keith Faulkner Burchett, both of Lebanon; sister Louise Burchett Chamberlain of Charlotte, NC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 11:00 am at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home. A Visitation will be held on Monday, August 17 from 4:00 to 7:00pm and Tuesday morning at 10:00am, prior to the service.
